华赛的东方视角与国际认同世界的东方和西方，总是以不同的视角，反映人类共同的智慧和文明。

2400多年前，中国杰出的思想家、科学家墨翟（公元前468-376）和他的学生做了世界上第一个小孔成像的实验，科学解释了光影原理。《墨经》是世界上最早对几何光学进行系统论述的典籍，涉及到影、小孔成像、平面镜、凹面镜、凸面镜成像。此后几十年，古希腊哲学家、科学家亚里士多德（公元前384-322年）观察到物体可见光和针孔成像并作出诠释。

人类在用影像反映事物、记录历史方面进行了长期不懈的探索。然而直到1839年，法国的舞台艺术家达盖尔(l.j.m．daguerre)发明了能保留影像的“银版摄影术”，现代摄影术才正式诞生。100多年来，摄影事业日新月异的的发展，催生了世界摄影文化的交流和合作。1957年，首届世界新闻摄影比赛（荷赛）在荷兰阿姆斯特丹举办；2005年，首届国际新闻摄影比赛（华赛）在中国深圳诞生。

华赛以从容开放的国际化心态来观察世界。因此，实现中国新闻摄影价值观念与国际新闻摄影评判标准的协调、自主创新精神与国际先进摄影文化的统一，便成为华赛的不懈追求。华赛评委会13位评委中，历年国际评委一直占8个席位；国际稿件参评和获奖数量分别约占70%左右；华赛的评选规则符合国际摄影赛事通则。华赛的国际化、专业化和公信力使它迅速成长为国际摄影文化的新品牌。华赛对和平与发展主旨的坚持奠定了人文关怀的基调，评出的作品体现的国际眼光和人性关注，显示了华赛作为一个立足东方的国际化赛事的独特角度。

Peoplehavealonghistoryinexploringtheuseofimagesinreflectingandrecordinghistory.Butnotuntil1893L.J.MDaguerre,theFrenchstageartist,inventedthedaguerreotypeprocessforobtainingpositivephotographicprintsdidmodernphotographycomeintobeing.Thefollowingcenturywitnessedtheamazingprogressinphotography,whichalsopromotedtheexchangeandcooperationbetweendifferentpartsoftheworld.In1957thefirstWorldPressPhotoContestwasheldinAmsterdam,Holland.In2005thefirstChinaInternationalPressPhotoContest(CHIPP)washeld
inShenzhen,China.
