东吴大学刘源俊: 从现代角度看孔子思想

He was bom in Kunming, Yunnan in 1946. He got the BS degree from National Taiwan University, Taipeiin 1966 and the PhD degree from Columbia University, New York City in 1972.
He has been teaching in the Department of Physics for over forty years. He was
the president of Soochow University during 1996-2004, and the president of Taipei Municipal University of Education during 2006-2008.
His main interests and expertise are in physics education, educational concepts and institutions, cultural development and administration in higher education.
Confucius' Thought in Modern Perspective

Modern humanistic spirits are summarized in five realms: those related with ethics, with democracy, with science, with leisure and with transcendence. These five realms complement and harmonize with each other. The first three, namely those related with ethics, democracy and science, involves reason; the fourth, leisure, concerns sensibility; the fifth one, transcendence, relates to the soul.
The article asserts and exemplifies that Confucius' thought concords well respectively with the above.
The article goes on to explore Confucius' teachings on education. Four aspects are pointed out: balanced cultivation of one's character and intellect; mutual beneficence and complementarity among learning, thinking and doing; emphasis upon the basics; pursuit unto the optimum and harmony.
The teachings need modification in modem times though: 1. 'Character' and 'intellect' need be supplemented by 'health' for one's full-grown cultivation. 2. The concept and performance of experimentation-- in addition to leaming, thinking and doing -- need be included in one's life-long self-realization. 3. Exploration into the unknown is also important beside teaching and leaming. 4. For an healthy society, lawfulness needs be taken into account in parallel with reason and sensibility.

刘源俊
1946年出生于云南昆明。台湾大学理学士(1966),美国哥伦比亚大学物理学博士(1972)。
在东吴大学物理学系任教已逾40年。曾任东吴大学校长(1996-2004),台北市立教育大学校长(2006-2008)。
兴趣与专长主要在物理教育、教育理念与制度、文化发展、高等教育行政等。
从现代角度看孔子思想

明伦、和群、格致、闲适、超越五种精神,笔者称之为[现代五行]——现代五种人文精神;此[五行]相和而相生。检视孔子思想,则与上述[现代五行]符节。
孔子的明伦思想大体是兼重理与情,而理先于情。到了现代,应该要加上[法]的考虑,其顺序应改为:理_法一情。孔子的[和而不同] .[群而不党]两句话可合成[和群] 一词。和群、尊重与讲理,同为[善处人群]的基本原则,是现代[民主精神]的要义。
[科学精神]的要义是[务实、明理、利用的态度,求是、求善、求美的精神];此与孔子思想大致符合。Science可诠译为[学一验一思],孔子的[学/思/行]方法应该补上[验] -[学/验/思/行],才符合现代需要。
闲适是西方之一重要概念——闲适是发见之源泉。孔子懂闲适的功能,并以之作为教育的重要内容;他也知闲适应有所节制。[超越精神]指抛开个人的考虑,包括舍己、行义、看破生死等面向。孔子的言论中充分显示他重义轻利,重现世轻身后的超越态度。
其次略说略说孔子教育思想的精义,可用四点概括:一、德性与学问并重。二、学、思、行相辅。三、注重基本。四、致中致和。
从现代观点看,孔子教育思想尚有所不足,需要补充:一、[尊德性而道问学]的[两纲领[应扩充为[进德、健身、成智三纲领]。二、[学、思、行]的[三并重]应扩充为[学、验、思、行四相成]。三、[教学相长]应扩充为[教、学、研三相长]。四、[理、情]的[两注意[应扩充为[理、法、情]的[三兼顾]。
