Shirley Chan

Doctor Shirley Chan was graduated from the Department of Chinese Studies of the University of Sydney in 1992, and got a Bachelor's Degree in Asian studies; in 1995 and 2001, she got a Master's degree and a Doctoral degree in international

studies in the University of Sydney respectively. Since 2002, she teaches at the Macquarie University, Sydney. Currently she is a senior lecturer and doctoral tutor as well as a member of ancient culture research centre in the University. She mainly specializes in the history of thoughts in Pre-Qin Period, Chinese philosophy and ancient Chinese culture. She published a professional book in English: (The Confucian Shi, Official Service and the Confucian Analects) (2004) (Lewiston, NY: Edwin Mellen, 312 pages). Her academic papers have been published in a number of international journals, including Dao: Journal of Comparative Philosophy, Journal of Asian History, Journal of Chinese Philosophy and The Journal of Oriental Society of Australia, etc.

Cosmology in the Warring Bamboo Slip Texts-

a Philosophical Interpretation

The cosmology or world outlook of a culture is not only the simple philosophical contemplation or the knowledge about the nature, but also the method for understanding and organizing the nature and human society,it penetrates and embodies all aspects of culture, history, society and politics. In ancient China, the "cosmos" is the source of the creation of all things,it is an abstract expression of the order of universe and the operation of nature. Chinese philosophy and traditional Chinese ideology, for the most part, explore the correspondence between cosmos and humanity based on relevant cosmology and generation theory through the understanding of "cosmos". The way of cosmos and the way of humanity and their derived philosophical categories are the important topics explored by Chinese thinkers and philosophers for thousands ofyears. This paper uses some of the texts of the bamboo slips in the Waring States Period as the basis for the exploration of the concept of cosmology and the correspondence between the cosmos and humanity in the Waring States Period, it points out that the bamboo slips containing Confucian and Taoist thoughts indicate the mutual complementation, circulation and continuous reproduction of all natural things, and hold that the understanding of the mode and law by which the "cosmos" breeds all things enables us to know and create the principle for a harmonious and orderly human society.

1992年毕业于澳大利亚悉尼大学(University of Sydney)中国研究系,获亚洲研究学士学位,又分别于1995年与2001年获悉尼大学国际研究硕士与哲学博士。2002年以来在悉尼麦克理大学(Macquarie University)任教。现为该校国际研究系高级讲师、博士生导师以及古代文化研究中心成员。主要研究范围为先秦思想史、中国哲学与中国古代文化。曾发表英文专著《论语之士与仕》(The Confucian Shi,Official Service and the Confucian Analects) (2004) (Lewiston,NY: Edwin Mellen.312页)。学术论文刊于包括Dao: Journalof Comparative Philosophy, Journal of Asian History, Journal of Chinese Philosophy以及The Joumal of Oriental Society ofAustralia等在内的国际期刊。

战国楚简中的宇宙观与天人关系

一种文化的宇宙观或世界观并非单纯的哲理思辨或是对自然界的认识,而是作为理解和组织自然及人类社会的方法,渗透并体现在其文化、历史、社会以及政治的各个方面。在古代中国,“天”是万物生成的本源,是宇宙秩序与自然界运作的一种抽象的表达。中国哲学与中国传统思想很大一部分可以说就是通过对“天”的认知而对相关的宇宙观与生成论进行天人关系的探讨。天道与人道及其发展而来的各种哲学范畴更是千百年来中国思想家、哲学家思索探求之重要课题。本文藉助战国竹简的一些篇章探讨有关战国时期的宇宙观与天人关系的哲学命题,指出兼有儒、道色彩的楚简呈现自然万物相辅相成、周而复始而生生不息,并认为了解“天”赞育万物的模式与规律能够使我们认识与创建人类社会和谐有序的原理。
