在中国历史上，中国知识分子第一次大规模地对自己的本土文化予以审视开始于近代。这种审视表明：第一，本土文化第一次成为认识对象，上升为问题，因而不可能再沿着原有的运思方向自然进展。第二，这种认识是借助于“他者”进行的，古今问题由此变成中西问题。因而第三，不管认识结果怎样，结论何如，都已是对中国本土文化的一种“反思”或“观照”，更是一种重新选择。第四，正是在中西文明对话的语境中，中国路径得以呈现了。

中国路径本身是一种以中国为主体、主词的立场、视野与方法。它把历史贯成总体，连贯成一个连续的发展序列，从中关注那些稳定的持续的一再出现的因素，并把它们凝结和表述为中国路径。这种连贯的东西，或称普遍价值是以隐蔽的方式内含于近代思想家的思想之中的。这是一笔遗产，但需要整理，才能显现为遗产。之所以如此，是时代使然，应看作是中国文化的普遍价值的一种特殊的时代表述，如同历史上我们先后用德、礼、仁、王道等表述同一种普遍价值一样。每一次核心概念的转换，都是思想家与其时代进行信息与能量交换的结果和产物。但中国路径的方法所着眼的是特殊时代背后的一以贯之的东西，也就是普遍价值。由于西学东渐的特殊历史因素，这种普遍性极难把握。因此，比附之类的现象在近代思想家那里才会出现。新世纪的“国学热”为我们克服这种困难提供了一种历史机遇，允许我们将中国文明的独特性作为旗帜高扬起来，主动自觉地进行整理工作，在此基础上继续前人未完的事业。

TheChineserouteofcivilizationprocess

Thefirstlarge-scalereviewtoindigenouscultureofChineseintellectualsbeganinnineteenthcentury.Thisreviewindicatedthat,firstofall,indigenousculturebegantobecognitiveobjectsandopentodiscuss,thuscouldnolongerrunitsownoldcourse.Second,thiscognitionwasincitedbythe"others"andthediscussof"ancient-modem"became"Chinese-Western".Thirdly,nomatterwhatresultmightcome,ithadbeena"retrospect"and"contemplation"toChineseindigenousculture,orwecansay,are-choice.Finally,theChineserouteappearedintheprocessofChinese-Westerncivilizationdialogue.

TheChineserouteisastandpoint,perspective,methodology,inwhichChinaisthemainsubject.Itlinksupthehistoryasacontinualdevelopmentprocess.Itfocusesonthosestableandcontinuallyappearedelementsandtriestoformulatethemas'Chineseroute'.Suchelements,alsoknownas"universalvalues"arehiddeninthethoughtsofthosemodern-timephilosophers.It'salegacy,butonlycanitbeshownaslegacyafterwesortitout,becausethe"universalvalues"areexpressedbyacertainforminthatparticularera,justsimilartothewayweexpressthesame
